Moving Collective Presents First Full Length Work
Louisville, KY, January 16, 2017
After a decade of presenting the works of regional choreographers, Moving Collective is making a change in their 11th season line up. Artistic directors, Theresa Bautista and Amanda Browning, have created the first full length work in Moving Collective’s history. The premiere work entitled ID will debut February 17-19, 2017 at The Louisville Collegiate School Black Box Theater located at 2440 Grinstead Drive in Louisville, KY. Tickets are available at the door or at www.brownpapertickets.com, $20 General Admission, $15 Students and Seniors.
ID, co-choreographed by Bautista and Browning, features 9 dancers from Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green, Kentucky. ID is an exploration of humans’ natural tendencies to find and establish identity.
This abstract dance will take the audience on a journey exploring the many facets of identity through seven vignettes. Individuals claim who they are by choosing groups and territories and they label one another through coarse judgements. A solo dancer will dispute and rebel against one’s suppressed identity and another will find conflict in her personal conscience. Groups will dispute their blind beliefs without truly knowing why they follow and the precious value of identity is raised when it is lost.
With the success of ten seasons behind them, Bautista and Browning, along with co-producers, Amanda Rollins, Nicole André, and Amber Marquez are continuing to foster the growth of and appreciation for modern dance. Moving Collective exists not as a traditional dance company, but as a collection of independent, evolving choreographers and dancers from several states. We are performance-driven with goals to keep contemporary dance alive in Louisville and to provide a professional work atmosphere and venue for innovative choreographers and professionally-trained dancers.
Moving Collective was created by Theresa Bautista in 2005 and designed to provide the growing number of area choreographers an opportunity to showcase their work, utilizing the depth of talented contemporary dancers in the Louisville area. Moving Collective has proudly presented over 150 choreographic works and showcased the talents of over 100 dancers.
